Not only do adaptive athletes face physical challenges, they also have less access to equipment and training opportunities. Consider the difference if you were trying to find a new or used mountain bike, find a group of friends to ride with, and discover trails to meet your ability level. For most people this is a fairly straightforward process. For adaptive athletes there are barriers all along the way.
This fall, Mission43 and Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) partnered again to bring adaptive athletes in Idaho together for their first rock climbing clinic. It was amazing to see the growth both for the adaptive athletes and the volunteers through sports and teamwork, made possible by the Challenged Athletes Foundation. You can see that in this inspiring video of the climbing clinic at the City of Rocks, where Mission43 members were responsible for all the logistics including food, transportation, and running the base camp. We won’t always be at the forefront, but having a chance to be part of this and help CAF-Idaho make this possible is always incredible.
GET INVOLVED
Since 2019, Mission43 has worked closely with the Challenged Athletes Foundation in reducing the barriers faced by many Idahoans with disabilities. Particularly, Mission43 members have been leading the way by volunteering at many sport clinics like biking, skiing, running, swimming, and shooting. These volunteers may be running right alongside an adaptive athlete as they are learning a new piece of equipment. In other cases, Mission43 volunteers are working in the background ensuring the logistics are perfect.
If you are interested in volunteering on the Mission43 team at a CAF event, members will be notified via email and we’ll post the opportunity to our Mission43 Events page. We hope to see you out there!
