Leaders Fellowship 2020-2021 Cohort Application

THE MISSION43 LEADERS FELLOWSHIP

Mission43 is committed to improving transition outcomes for post-9/11 veterans and military spouses in Idaho. As such, the M43 leadership program supports members who seek increased self-awareness, personal and professional development, and those who are always on the path to be better versions of themselves.

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." ~John F. Kennedy

We are unleashing the potential of Mission43 members by investing in their leadership skills, growing their network, and ability to impact the community through leadership-in-action projects. This program is completely free to participants and is made possible by the investment of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation in Idaho’s military community and their access to limitless learning and innovative leadership.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

We will select a cohort of 18 military spouses, veterans, and currently serving military who demonstrate a commitment to their own personal development and the community they live in. From May 2020 to May 2021, we will come together to progress from internal reflection to external action. Ultimately, this group of Mission43 leaders is accountable to each other beyond the one-year program.

PHASE I: LEAD YOURSELF FIRST SEMINAR

This two-day workshop is led by Mike Erwin, CEO of the Character & Leadership Center and author of Lead Yourself First, and explores the counter-intuitive notion that one of the most impactful actions a leader can take is to create time for solitude. This is exceptionally timely as people are more distracted than ever. We’ll discuss strategies to fortify character and enhance clarity, creativity, emotional balance, and moral courage.

Mike Erwin helps us develop the foundation that will carry us through the rest of the M43 Leadership Program.

  • Day 1: Lead Yourself First // Day 2: Leadership is a Relationship

  • Dates: Thursday, August 13 - Friday Aug 14, 2020

  • Location: Boise, Idaho

PHASE II: WILDERNESS IMMERSION

Throw your pack on because we are heading into the Idaho backcountry. We’ll take the concepts discussed in Phase I and merge them with a physical immersion that is both beautiful and challenging. This shared experience helps the leadership cohort grow as a group while taking the time to “Lead Yourself First” without distraction. Be prepared to hike 5-7 miles per day.

  • Dates: Friday, September 4 - Sunday September 6, 2020

  • Location: Sawtooth Wilderness Area

PHASE III: LEADERS ENGAGED

We’ll meet monthly as we build the network and have direct discussions with key leaders from different segments of the Idaho economy. It’s also where previous M43 Leadership Program graduates are encouraged to attend and stay engaged.

  • Dates: Once a month from October 2020 to March 2021

  • Location: Boise, Idaho

PHASE IV: LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

The leadership class is split into four groups to each develop a community impact project in partnership with a local non-profit organization. The groups decide the non-profit, coordinate and plan the day, and then we activate the larger Mission43 community to come out and volunteer in support.

  • Timeframe: February - April. Community impact projects meetings and dates are set by the individual groups.

  • Location: Throughout Idaho

  • Graduation: End of April, 2021

COMMITMENT

This program is a year-long journey with 17 other incredible leaders from the Mission43 community. It will require you to be able to break away from your day-to-day life to take part in the different phases of the program (be sure to check the dates for the upcoming year). We believe leader development is important enough that we have invested and are committed to creating a life-changing and world-class experience for those who are selected.
